The 1986 season of the African Cup Winners' Cup football club tournament was won by Al Ahly in two-legged final victory against AS Sogara. This was the twelfth season that the tournament took place for the winners of each African country's domestic cup. Thirty-eight sides entered the competition, with AS Police withdrawing before the 1st leg of the preliminary round.
Preliminary round
- 1: AS Police withdrew before 1st leg
- 2: Vital'O F.C. 2–2 FC Petrolium on aggregate. Vital'O F.C. won on away goals (1–2).
First round
- 1: AS Sogara were dissolved in 1995
- 2: 1st leg was abandoned and both teams were disqualified; Dragons for fielding two ineligible players, Abiola for the pitch invasion by its supporters
- 3: Mbabne Highlanders 3–3 Eritrea Shoes Factory on aggregate. Mbabne Highlanders won on away goals (2–2).
- 4: Kampoi Eagles F.C. withdrew before 1st leg; MP Oran were later renamed MC Oran
- 5: ASC Diaraf won 3-4 on PSO.
Second round
- 1: Al Ahly (Tripoli) was disqualified before 1st leg after the Libyan Football Federation had been suspended by CAF for not paying its subscription dues
- 2: ASC Diaraf 2–2 CS Hammam-Lif on aggregate. CS Hammam-Lif won on away goals (2–1).
- 3: AS Sogara were to play against the winners of AS Dragons FC de l'Ouémé vs Abiola Babes (both disqualified)
Quarterfinals
- 1: CS Hammam-Lif won 3-4 on PSO.
Semifinals
- 1: Al Ahly 1–1 Ismaily SC on aggregate. Al Ahly won on away goals (1–1).
